Back to knitting

Finally I am back to normal with my knitting.
It does help to have two very nice projects on the go.
May the shrug is coming along nicely. It's biggest part, the back, is finished. the fronts and sleeves are really just odd shaped triangles.
All I have to do is pay attention and decrease the right amount of stitches.

The baby jacket is a wonderful knit. Did I mention that I still don't know the sex of the baby. Most people think it is going to be a boy! Me too! If it's a girl, we are all in for a shock. And I be rushing out to buy pink flowers, buttons, beads etc to sew on the blanket and this cardigan.
I'll order myself a zip when I know whether I need a blue matching or a bright pink zip.
The second sock for our lovely daughter is also coming along nicely. I am knitting the heel, taking photos of it proved to awkward.
Somehow my rant about the NHS has ended up on this website. Having had a my daughter in Switzerland and experienced the Swiss healthcare system, I have a very hard time getting used to the NHS here in the UK.

Mother and Baby knitting

A few days ago while I was reading other blogs, I came across Sue's and I saw her latest finished Object: The most wonderful little baby jacket. The patterns is from the Simply Baby book by Debbie Bliss. I feel the photos in the book do not show this jacket clearly.
I had never given this pattern a second look.
But as soon as I saw the finished jacket on Sue's blog, I went hunting through my stash.
A few months ago, while I was going through the IFV treatment, I shopped on the Internet. I got three skeins of King Tut Egyptian Cotton. The yarn has a nice sheen to it but it splits easily.
I seem to have my knitting mojo back the back of the baby jacket and the back of May are nearly finished. May has a wonderful raglan shaping. I found the bottom part hard to knit. To many stitches per row. I have become lazy. Now it seems to fly along the needles and grow quickly. A bit like my belly. I finally feel like I can enjoy being pregnant. But I am not happy with the NHS. I am going to check out a private doctor next week, hopefully he is nice and I will feel in good hands.
Speaking about belly's. Perry has had some troubles with his. He has not been a happy cat since Tuesday. I starved him yesterday, he complained!
Today, I think he is back to his normal self. He looks alert and wants to play.
Three days of not eating much and he looks skinny to me.
I am just glad he is OK and did not need a visit to the vet.

Stuff for Baby

We are back home from Switzerland. Everything has been unpacked and washed.
Perry is a happy cat. He loves having us all back to normal.
The Blanket for the baby is finished. I did all the knitting before we left and just had to darn in the ends and block it a little bit.
I have an empty draw where I now have started to put stuff for our baby.
This outfit has been my longest WIP going. It has taken me about 15 years to finish.
I had started it for a friend. I can clearly remember the trip to the yarn shop and my choice of book and yarn. The yarn is a Swiss Baby yarn in sock yarn weight, it's 100% superwash new wool. I had finished all the pieces for the cardigan in no time at all. Then I got stuck on the neck border, I could not remember how to do it. So I started on the dungarees. That also got left in a corner. Knitting was a lonely hobby back then. I did not think of going back to the shop to ask.
About 3 years ago with my skills greatly improved, I finished it. Put it away. Hopefully it will see some use in a few motnhs time. I think I knitted it in a size 3-6 months.
Twenty more weeks and we will hopefully know what size the baby is.

Fasnacht 2007

This morning at exactly 5 am was the start of Fasnacht (Carneval).

Our lovely daughter and her granny went and saw it all.

Our daughter was very busy throwing confetti everywhere.

Fasnacht is today and then contiunes on Monday and Tuesday. Sadly we will be back home by then.

We did more than just get ready for Fasnacht. On Tuesday afternoon we met up with Valentina and her lovely daughter. We had a great time together. Sadly I forgot to take any photos.
Hopefully we meet again soon.
Knitting has been a bit sporadic. At least the first sock is done and I cast on for the second one.
I have started on May but it is not picture worthy just yet.
We will go out again this afternoon and watch the parade.

Spring is here

Spring is here. Well not when I look outside. The snow has all gone but it is wet and cold.
But the new Rowan Magazine has arrived and a lot of others are now in the shops.
The Blanket is very nearly finished. I have less than half a ball of yarn left. My aim is to nearly finish the ball. I'll have to judge how much yarn I'll need for the last few rows of garter stitch border.
Of course there is now way I am going to take a nearly finished blanket on holiday with me.
I had to go and get myslef another project. When I saw in the Rowan Magazine that their RYC has a new book called 'Mother and Baby' I knew I had to have it.
I love the little May shrug. It'll be wonderful to wear during pregnancy and look good afterwards. My LYS had enough lilac yarn. The colour is called Bella Donna. What more could I want?
I had a scan this week but the baby would not turn the right way round. I only saw the top of baby's head. My husband saw an arm or a leg move in between, I did't because I was lying flat on back.
I must go and make sure I pack everything I need for a week in Switzerland. Hopefully there will be some snow on lower ground.

Snow Day

Here in East London there are a few happy children. Schools closed!
Our backgarden this morning at 7am.
I grew up in Switzerland and never had a day of school because of snow or any other weather.

Perry did not know what to make about it.
Go out or stay inside?
In the end he went out and then he went wild.

Darting accross the garden like a maniac.
It was hard taking photos of him.
He was running around very fast.
The snow looks now totally messed up.
There has been some knitting going on.
About 30 more rows and the blanket will be finished.
I have been busy looking at all the new spring books. Visiting my LYS and touching the new yarns.
Unlike Perry , who is always dressed and ready. Our lovely daughter took a bit longer to get ready for the outside world.
Here she is: ready to have fun.
Having a Swiss Mum means, she has all the gear to play in the snow. Sadly her sleigh lives in Switzerland and hopefully will see some use next week. I promise I will not be tempted to have a go myself.
